Why Do People Homeschool?
If you have decided to homeschool and are planning now, that is fantastic! You have plenty of time to build routines, research options and file before beginning. If you are still considering this educational option, I hope I can help you to make a decision.
So why do people homeschool?
I remember when we began homeschooling. Our friends and family thought we were doing something crazy and new. Education at home predates the American school system as it is known today. It is an ancient concept that has changed over the years and risen or dropped in popularity as a common method of education. It did not suddenly appear in the 1970s as some believed back in the 80s.
In the 80s and 90s, it was common to homeschool for religious reasons or because we believed our children could recieve a more advanced education. Today, we homeschool for many reasons. There is one reason that we all share and that is we believe that home education is the best choice for our family.
For my family, homeschooling is part of a whole life, whole family lifestyle. We live, play, learn and even work together as a family. My husband and I are able to see our children taught with the methods we believe in and can teach them the things we believe are important. Our children have a say in their own lives since we are open to hearing their opinions and strive to do what is right for each of them.
Homeschooling; it's an experience in living and learning.
